When you return to work, you don't need to return to your old commute.
Our region's Essential Workers have remained at the frontlines, working to make sure we are healthy and safe during the pandemic.
With the high cost of living the San Francisco Bay Area, some of these workers are commuting from great distances where they've been able to find housing. Yet they have limited access to affordable, convenient, reliable transportation to get to and from their jobs around the Bay.
Other essential workers do live locally but must commute solo in their cars for a variety of reasons: work schedules, family responsibilities, gaps in infrastructure,
and lack of access to affordable, realistic alternatives.
Their commute is our commute.
For many of us, where we live and where we work are in different cities or counties.
For many of us, commuting by bicycle is not convenient.
Essential Wheels™ is a transformative program to provide access to e-bikes and pedal bike support for frontline and returning workers. Based on our outreach, needs analysis, and feasibility efforts with essential workers during shelter-in-place, our model comes at a time when many employers are unsure about how to meet the needs of a hybrid workplace.
One of several opportunities in our Manzanita Transit portfolio is Essential Wheels™. It is available to private, public, and nonprofit employers who join our network of subregional transit consortiums - their workers benefit from the local solutions we craft together.
